How to create a viral tech blog post in 2022?!
Do you want to create a viral hit that grabs the attraction of your target audience? What’s the secret to making viral content? Well let’s see if the internet is right and follow every tip I can find on the internet about viral blogs/content and see if this blog is a hit! Viral hits on the internet are often pot luck but if we follow the gospel advice from the great sources on the internet can we achieve it?
HEADLINE!
First we capture our audience with a great headline that provides benefit to our audience or provokes curiosity. So I went with “How to create a viral tech blog post in 2018”. It’s specific, niche and will be posted on a tech blogging website so should capture my target demographic.
Intro
Next we try captivate our audience within our introduction to encourage them to read on. Set the premise up with what we are trying to achieve which tells a story about trying to hit the algorithmic sweet spot and gain plenty of traction with a blog post.
Drive on Emotion
Playing on people’s emotions can evoke strong reactions! Emotions such as awe, fear, anger or surprise get people to consume and share content. Looking at Mediums “featured stories” are an example of this success! “I Hate Mammograms”, “How I fell in love with Peloton”.
Creativity
If I go to the BBC Technology page almost every day they have a news story about Facebook’s data or privacy problems. Being able to creatively dissect something and insert personality and charisma in a blog post is difficult. But let’s face it topics like a social networks’ privacy policy are dry and don’t attract the casual audience so adding that creative spice could well be the trick you are missing.
For example one of my blog posts “The Future of Voice Control” seemed to be a hit with 254 reads. Whilst my other blogs receive mostly under 10. The reason for this? Perhaps a creative look at voice control by looking towards the future. As well as hitting a current topic that voice controlled interfaces are becoming more and more popular.
Make it Scannable
Lists, Sub-headings and summaries of key points makes content easier to read, digest and understand. No one wants to click on your blog and immediately want to click off due to the scary lengthy paragraphs streaming down the page. Fill your blog with images to help break up text, after all us human beings are visual creatures. Use KISS, keep it simple stupid!
Make your content pop!
More specifically to Tech bloggers, documenting news and highly technical terms can be really boring at times. Consider playing with your content to try match current news stories to hit the viral jackpot! Interview posts, Rags-to-riches stories and becoming a case study for a product or brand all make interesting content to read!
Platform
Another key feature of your blogs is where you are posting them? The place in which you post your product is a not only a pillar of marketing but an essential part of blogging. Another good example of this is that I used to post my blogs on my own blogger site. In which 32 blog posts didn’t amass much traction.
I then switched to Medium where audiences specifically go to view blog posts on certain genres which I have found already within the 4 blog posts I have made on the site, much greater success. Of course there are pros and cons to every platform but it is something to be considered in terms of virality and exposure.
Optimise for Social Media
Finally once all your hard work is complete. Ensure your blog is social media friendly and share your blog. The obvious hashtags, tweeting to influencers and allowing shareability within your content will allow your content to grow. So all I can ask of you is to share this post if you have found it useful and let’s create a viral hit to prove the tips and tricks on the internet are not false.
To summarise and wrap this all up. This blog post could fall flat on its face and make me look really stupid. But it’s an interesting concept to trial the advice of the internet to see if it will work. Most importantly consistency, reputation and quality content will eventually prevail so keep at it. I’d love to hear what stories, tips and advice other bloggers have from their time blogging. I also must give credit to these sources that gave me some of the advice that formulated this blog post!
